An initial test of prototype mobile app interventions for decluttering
We are currently conducting a study testing whether two prototype mobile apps, that prompt you to write about your thoughts and experiences, can increase motivation to declutter.
To be eligible you must:
Be 18 years or older
Live in the United States
Own an Android or iOS mobile device (such a smartphone or tablet)
Have clinically significant problems with hoarding/clutter
Participating involves:
Completing an initial online screening, consent form, and survey
Being randomly assigned to either:
Use the Self-Reflection prototype mobile app twice daily for four weeks. Using the app involves responding to brief survey questions and writing about your thoughts and experiences for 5-10 minutes each time.
Use the Values Clarification prototype mobile app twice daily for four weeks. Using the app involves responding to brief survey questions and writing about your personal values for 5-10 minutes each time.
Be on a waitlist for 8 weeks, after which you will receive access to either app
Completing follow-up surveys 4 weeks and 8 weeks after enrolling
Participating is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw from the study at any time. This study has been reviewed by the Mississippi State University HRPP/IRB, is designated IRB-23-253, and has been granted an Exemption Determination. The principal investigator is Dr. Jennifer Krafft (jek299@msstate.edu). Please contact the study coordinator, Natalie Tadros (nt546@msstate.edu), with any questions.
